Never been the biggest AV fan, but the small things he have said and done so far have been a bright spot this preseason. Then you add in the veteran experience he has with his assistant coaches and this team has no reason to sail through the season like they have the past 6-7 years.

I just want to watch a team that puts out their full effort every single night, sadly it has been a long time.

I don't know that I have ever been excited for a coaching staff.

Sure Lavi had his approach that worked for a season or two but assistants weren't proven at that time.

This group though I would suspect has seen and done it all just about.

Looks like we have a dark horse candidate making a push for that final forward roster spot - Twarynski.

Last year twarynski was a later cut. I haven’t watched any games yet but last year twarynskis skating and forecheck stood out from any of the other younger players. Those assets are nhl quality, along with his size. He reminds me of the type of 4th liner Pittsburgh never seems to have a problem developing like a kuhnackl

I don't like to admit that, but ya Flyers (& Grittys) have a serious playoff push this year...

Lol, that goal was basically Twarynski from the center red-line in.

Your GM balanced the team pretty nicely, the prospects pool is full and teams with a long summer are especially motivated, and as a bonus you even have one of the better blogger on this site... Metro will be a Very(!) tight race, especially as there is a good chance that Atlantic will also get at least 4 spots (TBL,TOR,BOS,FLA or maybe even MON).

Twarynski looked solid last night. I have seen a lot of people praising Farabee’s play this camp, but I don’t see it. He has been OK, but you would hope for more when playing on a line with our best players. Last night, playing with Frost, he was just OK...again. Don’t get me wrong I think he will be a top 6 forward in the future, but he needs some time in the AHL. Frost has been good, much better than last year. Stewart is a guy that’s hard to root against but unfortunately he isn’t very good. I’d rather have Morin play forward in that role if necessary.

So Morin, I have always hoped that this guy would make it. You can’t really call him a bust because he never should have been picked that high in the first place, which is what they commentators said at the time. If you want to get depressed, go back to that draft and see the dozens of players currently in the NHL that we could of had in that spot. Once, he was picked his career was completely mismanaged by the Flyers. Two years ago he played better than at least three defensemen that made the team, he was sent down and then was injured and season over. This camp, he is somewhere between 8-10 on the d chart. So the options are trade, use him as a checking forward, or waive him and probably lose him for nothing. O’Brien is in same boat. Never should have been selected, but he and his agent, not the Flyers, are the one’s destroying his future. Dominant in high school against inferior players, goes to college and is hurt or awful against real competition. Takes his ball and goes home to play, you guessed it, inferior competition.

I would go with Twarynski, Rubtsov, and Frost if NP can’t play. I may go with Frost over Rubtsov if NP can play.

Better game. That’s what your starters are supposed to do to a bunch of minor league kids. I like what I’ve seen of Hayes so far. He looks kinda slow, but he’s so tall that he gets where he’s going fast enough. That 2nd line looks like it’s going to be good. Konecny really picks up the first line. I hope Couturier isn’t hurt. Can’t afford to be down two centers. I don’t really see any of the kids grabbing that spot. I don’t know how a seven foot tall guy can be so invisible. Is it still too early to give up on Sam Morin? I’ve seen enough.

You can give up on Morin. He doesn’t have what it takes for this league anymore. 10-15 years ago maybe

A lot of people had something to say about Hayes contract. If he plays like he has played in the pre season, I'd be extremely happy. I love Stewart but he hasn't done much to separate himself from what Gabriel/Andreoff can provide. The Frost/Rubstov/Farabee is a good problem to have and I'm sure they will all get a swing at the big club this year at some point no matter where they start.

Yep. I’m really liking the addition of Niskanen tho. It feels like it’s been forever since the Flyers have had a solid smart veteran d-man. One of Hextall’s biggest blunders was not acquiring a guy like him and putting so much on Provorov at such a young age. It’s a credit to Provorov that he’s held up as well as he has.

He is a bust at this point and doesn’t matter why until proven otherwise.

Novel idea using him at fwd. maybe center...

I was rooting for Morin for years myself. If the Flyers have no room for him on defence in the future, waive him and if he makes it through, I like the idea of trying to convert him to a winger.
